Now what? First there was contaminated dog and cat food that killed thousands, so you switched to feeding a home prepared diet. Now even that is not always safe.
Once again, we learn that finding local meat sources for your family and your animals is key to good health. Numbers of people and animals have become ill because of feeding ground meat from the supermarket. When you know your farmer, when you visit the farm, you can trust the safety of your meat. The farm family is eating what you are eating.!!!!
In the last two months, two major companies had to recall almost 100 TONS Carlisle , Pa. Indiana Kentucky Maryland Ohio Tennessee Wisconsin Virginia
How the meat is raised can contribute to infection. “According to a Kansas State University ( KSU KSU
As I have taught for years, cows are not genetically designed to eat distiller’s grain. They are designed to eat GRASS!!
SOLUTIONS:
1. Improve Health: When your dog is very healthy, they can eat meat that has lots of bacteria in it because dogs are actually scavengers and many can live a long and healthy life eating road kill. Cats usually will not eat meat that is rotting and they, too, have intestinal tracts that, when healthy, can be healthy on slightly contaminated meats. The dogs and cats who became ill on this ground meat were probably not that healthy to begin with. Many are not ill enough to go to a veterinarian and have some of the early warning signs of illness. (www.ChristinaChambreau.com – early warning signs of illness).
2. Buy Local Free Range
3. Join a CSA
4. Form a buyers club and have a rancher finish off a steer on grass, not in a feed lot.
5. Do NOT go back to commercial foods from fear.
6. PS - once again I am seeing an ill cat, possibly due to an increase in dry food given as a "treat". There are plenty of other treats. Please, no dry food for cats in the house.
